Another call from Law Offices of Curtis O. Barnes today
So I just got my third call in two days from these folks. I finally picked up and the guy on the line said they were trying to reach me about "legal paperwork" that needed my attention. He was very vague and kept saying he couldn't disclose anything until I confirmed my full name, address, and last four of my social. I told him I wasn't comfortable giving that out over the phone without knowing what this was about. He got a little short with me and said if I didn't cooperate, they would "note the file accordingly" and hung up. No callback number, no case reference, nothing. I checked online and their website looks like a real law firm that handles consumer law and debt defense. But the way this is being handled feels off to me. If it was truly important legal correspondence, wouldn't they send something in writing first? Now I'm sitting here wondering if I messed up by not giving them my info. What if it's a legit lawsuit or something? But then again, I've heard scammers use these tactics too. Has anyone actually resolved anything with this firm? Did they send you mail first or just start calling out of the blue? I'd really appreciate hearing from someone who's been through this. Also, if it is a debt collector posing as a law firm, isn't that illegal? Just trying to figure out my next move here. Thanks everyone.
