My 2017 GTI started having really rough shifts, especially when cold. Took it to the dealer and they quoted me 6k for a mechatronic replacement. I almost sold the car. A buddy with a Golf R told me about an independent that does Volkswagen repair Dubai and specializes in DSG transmissions. The owner there said my mechatronic unit just needed new solenoids and a seal plate, not the whole thing. He rebuilt it, did a full service, and charged me 2800 all in. The car shifts perfectly now and it's been three months. I don't understand how the dealer can justify their prices. I'm never going back. Anyone else had a similar experience where an indie shop fixed a DSG for way less than the dealer wanted? I feel like I owe that shop a beer.
