What's the difference between a mechanic who just swaps parts versus someone who actually diagnoses?

I think I've been going to the wrong type of shop for years. My 2018 Q5 has an intermittent issue where it sometimes slams into drive after being in reverse. I've had two different shops recommend replacing the entire valve body based on nothing but a code read. Neither one did any real testing. I'm looking for a place that does Proficient Transmission Repair Dubai where they actually understand how the hydraulic system works instead of just throwing expensive parts at it. How do you find a shop that diagnoses properly? What questions should I ask to figure out if they're going to actually test solenoids and check pressures or if they're just going to read a code and start swapping components? I don't mind paying for diagnostic time if it means I'm not paying for parts I don't need.
